Since your eyes are likely one of the first features that people notice, revising signs of aging in this area can significantly rejuvenate your appearance. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) offers this improvement in a natural-looking and effective way.
Dr. Lenore Sikorski brings over twenty years of experience to blepharoplasty procedures for patients in the Orange County area. She is certified by both the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, a unique combination that gives her in-depth knowledge of skin, face, and body aesthetics.
Beyond her extensive training and time in practice, Dr. Sikorksi’s work is distinguished by her background in the fine arts. She has a deep understanding of how light, shadows, and curves influence a person’s appearance. As her patient, you will benefit from precise surgical technique as well as an artist’s eye for detail.
An Overview of Blepharoplasty
Younger-looking eyes are defined by firm skin and clean lines. As you age, however, you may notice that your eyelids begin to sag, become heavy, or show an excess of folds. This can create several problems:
- Your eyelids may cause discomfort and irritation.
- Excess eyelid skin can affect the periphery of your vision.
- Women may have trouble wearing eye makeup as the skin becomes finer and more wrinkled. This can age their appearance even further.
Blepharoplasty offers patients in the Orange County area subtle and natural-looking improvements that can make a significant difference in how youthful and rested they appear. The procedure removes excess skin and creates a younger-looking contour.
Dr. Sikorski’s procedures revise the eyelids to give them cleaner lines and a firmer appearance. Incisions, placed in the crease of the eyelids, should fade over time and are not visible when your eyes are open. The result is greater comfort, clearer vision, and restored features.
Your Initial Consultation
During your visit with Dr. Sikorski, you’ll have an opportunity to discuss the changes you’d like to make and to ask questions about treatment options. Orange County patients value the transparent and personal approach that Dr. Sikorski brings to these consultations; her priority is understanding the needs of those in her care, guiding them to the right approach, and giving them confidence in their decision.
During a consultation for blepharoplasty, Dr. Sikorski will:
- Examine the amount of excess skin you have.
- Evaluate the condition of the skin.
- Use a mirror to show you areas that surgery may improve.
If you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty and opt to have the procedure, Dr. Sikorski will conduct additional examinations and tests and send you for visual fields tests with an eye doctor. These steps help ensure the highest safety possible in your surgery.
Your Experience with Blepharoplasty
Surgeries take place in our Laguna Niguel surgery center. Our surgery center is AAAHC certified. Dr. Sikorski plans procedures based on each patient’s needs, but here is a general overview of what to expect with blepharoplasty:
- You will receive either deep IV sedation or conscious sedation. With deep sedation, you will sleep through the entire procedure. Conscious sedation uses a combination of medication to help you relax and a decrease discomfort.
- If you are having IV sedation, a board-certified anesthesiologist will oversee general anesthesia to increase the safety of the procedure.
- Sikorski will use a CO2 laser to make incisions and to remove excess skin and fat. Laser technology and insulated tips reduces discomfort, risk of infection, and recovery time after your procedure.
Following your blepharoplasty, you will need to be away from work and regular activities for about one week. This includes vigorous exercise; walking is okay, but heavy lifting, running, and even yoga are not advised for 2 weeks. You will also need to stop using eye makeup while you are recuperating.
During this week, you will have stitches in the surgical site and may also have some bruising. Your vision may be blurry due to drops and ointments during the healing process.
It will take about two months for the final results of your blepharoplasty to be visible. At that point, the incisions should have faded, and your eyes should have a more youthful and alert appearance.
