How does the GentleMax laser work?

The Gentlemax laser works primarily by the absorption of heat by pigment cells in the skin and hair. Surrounding tissue is unaffected. This pigment may be brown or black as is the case in brown spots on the skin or hair; red or blue for broken or enlarged veins. During treatment, laser light is absorbed only by the targeted pigment, raising the temperature enough to cause changes permanent changes.

In the case of brown spots and freckles, this heat absorption causes a shattering of the pigment. For hair removal, the dark pigment in the hair absorbs heat in the follicle, disabling the production of hair.

Superficial damaged blood vessels and broken capillaries are treated similarly with a quick switch of settings, though in this case the vessels respond by shrinking.

Shortly after treatment, the pigment cells (or melanin) have been thoroughly fragmented – all without damaging the surrounding tissue. Vascular lesions (spider veins) also coagulate and shrink, many of them disappearing altogether.

In the weeks after treatment, the shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body’s own internal cleaning system that absorbs the fragmented pigment. Little or no trace of the initial pigmentation spots or spidery veins remain.

A GentleMax treatment also improves skin texture through collagen stimulation. Orange County patients receive multiple treatment benefits through one treatment along with the balanced effectiveness of one integrated intelligent system.

A special cooling system sprays a microburst of cryogen immediately before and after the laser firing, alleviating the sensation of heat.

Are laser and light-based treatments safe?
