Lower Eye Lift in Orange County

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty (lower eyelift) is a cosmetic facial procedure that removes bags and puffiness that is present in the lower eyelid area. Most often, Dr. Sikorski treats the lower lid bags with a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. A lower eye lift in Orange County could give you a rejuvenated, more energetic look.

Lower Eyelid Surgery Procedure

With a lower eyevlift, the excess fat is removed through the inner eyelid (where an incision is not seen), avoiding the need for a potentially visible incision in the external skin. Lower interior incisions generally do not require sutures and heal very quickly. The results of lower eyelid “lift” are usually quite significant. With no visible scarring, there is little risk of changing the shape of the lower eyelid. The non-sutured tissue heals within days. Men are excellent candidates for lower eyelid surgery in Orange County, as this simple step can provide a rejuvenating effect and requires minimal aftercare.

What Changes Can I Expect With a Lower Eye Lift?

This procedure alleviates the ‘tired’ look and can considerably rejuvenate the facial expression. Improvement in dark circles and wrinkles can be further achieved by using erbium laser resurfacing or a chemical peel in the eyelid area. With today’s advanced techniques, eyelid surgery can offer a fresher, more alert look and quicker recovery.

When is Transconjunctival Surgery Not the Best Approach?

Though Dr. Sikorski most commonly uses the transconjunctival approach for the lower eyelids, there are certain circumstances in which she will suggest using an external skin incision for the lower eyelids and actually remove extra skin. This usually is the case in which there are larger pockets of herniated fat and the redundant skin cannot “shrink” adequately following fat removal. In these cases the incision is at the base of the eyelash. Very fine sutures are used to close the incision and keep the scar at its most minimal.

What should I expect after surgery?

Part of your consultation includes a discussion of the recovery process and what to expect from your lower eye lift in Orange County. However, there are some general aspects that may affect your recovery you should expect beforehand.

You will have some swelling in the eye area. This is unavoidable and is normal. Dr. Sikorski will give you all pre and post-operative instructions. Swelling peaks in the morning after surgery and then mostly resolves over the next ten days. A small amount of puffiness, however, may persist for several months. Most cosmetic eyelid surgery patients experience mild aching or burning that is usually well-controlled with Tylenol and cold compresses. (Not aspirin or an anti-inflammatory as this can cause additional bruising.) Most patients experience moderate bruising that begins to fade several days after surgery and is gone by two weeks. Normal day-to-day activities may be resumed within two days of surgery. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 2-3 weeks.

What Health Issues Might Affect My Decision to Have Eyelid Surgery?

A few medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky. They include blood pressure and problems such as hypothyroidism and Graves’ disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. A detached retina or glaucoma is also a reason for caution. An Optometrist or Ophthalmologist clearance will be required prior to surgery.

Costs of Cosmetic Surgery

At Natural Image OC, we maintain a top-level integrated, AAAHC-accredited outpatient surgery center. This helps reduce the costs of cosmetic surgery because we are not tied to the additional costs of a satellite surgical center, nor do any “overtime” costs that can accrue from extra surgery time or anesthesiologist fees. In the end, this can save up to 25% over what many surgeries might cost elsewhere.
