Liquid Facelift vs. Surgical Facelifts

Different Procedures Are Used for a Liquid Facelift and a Surgical Facelift.

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical procedure. It is when Botox, Dysport, and other dermal fillers are injected into the face to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging and sunken skin. On the contrary, a surgical facelift is an elective surgery in which incisions are made in the hairline; the skin is lifted off of the underlying tissue, and excess fat is removed. The skin is then repositioned on the face, and additional, unwanted skin is trimmed to provide a more youthful-looking contour. 

Liquid Facelifts and Surgical Facelifts Correct Different Facial Issues.

While both procedures are called facelifts, liquid facelifts and surgical facelifts correct different facial issues for patients. A liquid facelift is primarily indicated to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, add volume to sunken areas of the face and to add volume to the cheeks. A surgical facelift, on the other hand, corrects loose skin on the necks, cheeks, and jawline. 

Liquid Facelifts and Surgical Facelifts Have Different Recovery Times.

Many patients like liquid facelifts because there is virtually no downtime with the procedure. A liquid facelift takes a matter of minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. A surgical facelift, however, does come with a recovery period. Your face will be bandaged after the procedure; you will have stitches for about seven days, and your will have swelling and bruising for about two weeks, after which time you can return to work. 

Liquid Facelifts and Surgical Facelifts Don’t Have the Same, Lasting Results.

Besides the different procedures performed with a liquid facelift and a surgical facelift, one of the biggest differences between the two procedures is how long they last. Dermal fillers have a short lifespan, and a liquid facelift typically lasts between one to two years. A surgical facelift, however, can last as long as ten years.
