Eye lift surgery (Blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic facial surgery that removes the look of fatigue, enlarges the eyes and restores the primary focal point of the face. Your eye lift in Orange County could help you look more awake, youthful, and energetic.
Why Eyes “Age” Us So Quickly
Usually the first and most dramatic signs of aging of the face are seen in the eye area. Excess skin of the upper eyelids and puffy bags of the lower eyelids create the upper eyelid “hoods” and make the eyes appear smaller. Aging skin becomes loose and begins to sag. This becomes quite noticeable around the eyes as eyelids have the thinnest skin on your body. Fatty tissue under the lower eyelid skin begins to protrude outward, causing “bags” under the eyes and consequential dark hollows. This creates a tired, aged look despite the fact that many patients are not tired and are usually younger than they appear. An eye lift in Orange County could reverse loss of elasticity due to sun exposure, which causes even more sagging or wrinkling.
Creating a More Youthful Eye is Delicate Business
Too much skin removal during an upper eyelid blepharoplasty and you may look startled and unnatural. Dr. Sikorski implements a subtle technique which allows your eyes to maintain a natural harmonious balance with the rest of your face while looking younger, rested and more alert. “I’ve been fortunate to have had many years of arts training, which has taught me critically important fine points in facial balance subtleties and how to create them in delicate areas such as the eye. Being able to bring those skills into my surgery for the benefit of my patients leaves us both very pleased with the outcome,” says Dr. Sikorski.
Preserving a Natural Appearance
Careful surgical technique is essential in preventing a loss of natural appearance. Too much fat removal in eye lift surgery can create a hollowed look which will only increase with age. Understanding eyelid anatomy is essential in determining whether or not eyelid hooding is caused by excess skin, excess fat, or stretched muscle – or a combination of two or the three. Dr. Sikorski carefully assesses the true cause of the problem and performs only the excision of fat or skin that is required without creating an unnaturally high crease or removal of youthful volume needed to maintain proper balance.
Avoiding Unnatural Results
Potential problems can result from a Blepharoplasty which sets the crease too high and / or removes too much natural fat or muscle. This is a common issue with lesser experienced surgeons who do not consider the entire facial anatomical balance when performing an eye lift in Orange County. Surgical technique to preserve a natural level of volume is integral to long term satisfaction and enjoyable appearance. Dr. Sikorski takes extraordinary care in making sure your surgical incisions are properly and aesthetically placed to create an eyelift that looks good now and for the years to come.
The Procedure
The upper eyelid blepharoplasty corrects both the looseness of the skin of the eyelids and the puffiness of the lids produced by projections of fatty tissues beneath the eyelid muscle. Upper eyelid surgery removes redundant, hanging eyelid skin, giving the upper lid a more youthful and energetic look. If there is unusual fat protrusion, this will be carefully and artfully trimmed without removing essential fat to maintain a proper eye cushion. The incision is carefully placed in the natural eyelid fold, is well camouflaged and once healed, will be almost imperceptible. All surgical marking is made while the patient is in an upright sitting position as it enables Dr. Sikorski to find the crease accurately.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty removes bags; and puffiness that is present in the lower eyelid area. A natural, refreshed, rested, and more youthful look is what you can expect from a properly performed blepharoplasty. The over-done, “startled” look occurs when too much is done, such as when combining a brow lift with a blepharoplasty during the same operation. Many patients with extra skin of the upper eyelids also have a component of a droopy brow. However, correcting both at the same time can give an exaggerated, funny, and startled look, and, in most cases should be avoided. If you have dual concerns with both a droopy brow and heavy lids or eye “bags”, Dr. Sikorski will help you determine which procedure should be undertaken first. In some cases a single procedure will provide enough correction that so that only a single procedure gives completely satisfactory results.
