A simple soft silicone implant can make a dramatic difference in the facial profile. A weak or underdeveloped chin will exaggerate fullness in the neck and is one aspect of the face that unfortunately is sometimes tied to a person’s character. The chin defines the character of the face; a long chin has been associated with strength and power, whereas a short chin suggests weakness. Chin implants impart a classic desirable feature that signifies not only youth but a refined and more friendly and healthy appearance. Dr. Sikorski of Natural Image OC surgically places silicone implants in Orange County.
Benefits of Chin Implants
Both men and women can have “weak” or small receding chins. Chin augmentation using a chin implant will balance a profile, create symmetry, add an appearance of strength and capability, and will have an immediate contouring effect on the entire lower jawline. For OC patients with a larger nose, a chin implant will visually alter the nose size, making it appear smaller and more proportionate to your face. These benefits, as well as whether a chin implant will be right for you, will be discussed in your consultation.
The Chin Implant Process
Your chin implant is easily placed with a single minimal incision. It is inserted through a small incision under the chin which is hidden in the natural crease and shadow area. To begin the procedure, Dr. Sikorski makes an incision along a pre-marked line beneath your chin. Then she will carefully create a small pocket below the muscle layer, just above your jawbone so the implant can be placed in front of your chin. This pocket will hold the chin implant. Chin implant surgery can be performed under local anesthesia or may be part of other selected surgical procedures choices such as a neck lift or facelift.
Chin implants are pliable and feel similar to natural tissue so once in place, they are indiscernible from a natural chin. Their pliability allows them to be inserted through a small opening, so incisions are short. Dr. Sikorski will insert and carefully position the sterile implant, ensuring a tension-free fit inside the pocket. The implant position is carefully inspected from all angles and if need be, any necessary adjustments are made. The pocket is closed with small sutures. Lastly, small bandages in combination with a compression bandage may be applied to provide comfort and support.
Matching Chin Implants To The Shape of Your Face
Dr. Sikorski takes into account a patient’s entire facial proportions in determining the size and shape of your chin implant. It is crucial to select the right size, make an accurate and smooth trim and place the implant “pocket” in the right location. A precisely placed chin implant will look completely natural and be very comfortable. Chin implants are made from silicone – used for facial implants for nearly 50 years.
