What is Restylane®?
Restylane was the first wrinkle correction and volume correction filler using hyaluronic acid gel, and it is now one of the non-invasive cosmetic procedures offered by Natural Image OC. Restylane gel corrects fine, moderate, and severe facial wrinkles and folds of all types, from the down-turned corners of the mouth to deep nasolabial folds. Restylane is used not only to fill lines and creases but also to increase the fullness of the lips, define the lip line, fill scars and plump up facial areas that have lost their youthful appearance.
Smoothing out folds and wrinkles by adding volume can make an enormous difference in patients’ appearance and sometimes make the face look several years younger. With Restylane, you can enjoy facial rejuvenation without the use of foreign elements.

One common instance of “volume loss” is the area under the eyes. Under-eye hollows create a worn-out, tired look. Restylane or other dermal injection products are instant solutions for filling the skin near the eyes.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape.
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is stabilized for long duration. Lasting up to twice as long as collagen, and in many patients even longer, Restylane treatments are typically scheduled only twice a year at our location. Injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a fine needle, the result is instantaneous, producing a long-lasting, natural enhancement.
What are the contents of RESTYLANE and Restylane Lyft?
Restylane and Restylane Lyft consist of stabilized hyaluronic acid and a sodium chloride solution with a pH of 7. All Restylane products are clear, transparent and viscous gels. The only difference between the products is the size of the gel particles. Larger particle formulations such as Restylane Lyft are used for deeper folds and augmentation.
In contrast to other similar products, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is not produced from animals. This means that there is no risk of disease being transmitted if you are sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs. Because Restylane composition is non-animal-based, it is also safely biocompatible. Allergy testing is not required before trying it. It is gentle and perfectly safe for your skin. Restylane can also be combined with other injectable treatments, such as Perlane. As a higher-density gel filler, Perlane is a mid-level dermal filler in its own right and an excellent base upon which Restylane can be added for a more substantial correction.
Can different Restylane products be used in the same area?
It is possible, indeed sometimes desirable, for Restylane products to be combined in order to perfect a correction. For example, to correct a deep fold, Restylane Lyft may be injected first, followed by Restylane or lighter viscosity fillers at a more superficial level to achieve optimal treatment results.
How long will my Restylane treatment session take?
Treatment with Restylane is a very quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes. The time differs somewhat, depending on the correction you wish to have performed
Does a Restylane injection hurt?
No injection is totally painless. If you like, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure. Injections are quick so any discomfort is short-lived. When enhancing the lips, a local anesthetic injection (similar to a dental block your dentist gives) is often given as this area is the most sensitive.
What will I look like after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week). If the discomfort continues, please contact Natural Image OC.
Are there precautions after my treatment with Restylane?
Yes. During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a sauna or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.
What should I do prior to the treatments?
Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, and high-dosage Vitamin E supplements one week before the procedure. This will help minimize any bruising or bleeding at the injection site. If you have had instances of cold sores or herpes simplex, we will treat you with antiviral medication to minimize the possibility of an injection-caused outbreak.
