What is Sculptra?

Sculptra™ is a Collagen Stimulator, a new injectable treatment to smooth wrinkles, restore facial volume and contour the face. It works by stimulating the rebuilding of the body’s own collagen to get rid of lines and wrinkles and restore a youthful appearance with gradual, natural looking results. FDA study results show lasting results past 2 years. Your own new collagen will of course age “with” you, but does not degrade like a temporary filler would.

In essence, the improvements you attain are a result of your own collagen. No other product has proven to provide this activation of collagen restoration.

As we age we naturally lose fat, muscle and bone – When these losses cause a gaunt older look, Sculptra can be injected to address the loss on a “global” basis in the face. This is something that fillers cannot achieve.

Sculptra is also used to restore volume deficiencies that may be genetic, caused by illness, weight loss, and in some Orange County patients, previous facelift surgery where volume was not factored into the end results.

Sculptra® is approved by the FDA for restoration and/or correction of volume loss; it is the first FDA-approved product of its kind. It is widely used by specially trained surgeons and dermasurgeons who wish to offer their patients a simple procedure for restoring a plumper more youthful appearance.

As we age all of us develop facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy. This loss of fat beneath the skin is noticeable to us because it can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes.

Sculptra® is an injectable product that restores and corrects the signs of facial fat loss by replacing lost volume, which can cause hollows at the temples, under the eyes, in the cheeks, and the jowls. Sculptra® provides an increase in skin thickness, helping to create a more natural facial appearance in those with facial lipoatrophy.

Sculptra’s Bio-Compatibility

Sculptra® is a safe, biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss and skin depressions. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required. The primary component is poly-l-lactic acid, which actually comes from milk. The same material as dissolvable sutures, it has been used in safely inside the body for decades.

The results from Sculptra® treatment are not immediate; Sculptra® provides a gradual increase in skin thickness so you must allow several weeks and months for your tissues to rejuvenate. As your collagen re-grows you will slowly begin to see the signs of aging starting to reverse. And since this is not a filler, but your own tissue that is regenerating, the effects of Sculptra® are enduring. In a clinical study, effects lasted for up to 2 years minimum after just the first treatment session in most Orange County patients.

Sculptra Treatment Needs

Most patients need 2-4 treatments for the effective results, though some are pleased with the effects of a single treatment. OC patients under 40 years of age usually need two treatments. Ages 40-60 years usually need 3 treatments. Ages 60 and above patients may often need 4 treatments to address all the areas which show volume loss and sagging. Since everyone reacts differently you need to re-evaluate your results after each treatment. Results may vary.

For most Orange County patients doing a full course for aging correction results should last a minimum of 2-3 years. Of course, “time marches on” and you are always continuing to lose your collagen/volume, but some patients may average 5 years or more before they decide to “touch-up” their appearance.

Applications

Sculptra™ is suitable for increasing the volume of depressed areas, particularly to correct skin depressions, such as skin creases, wrinkles, folds, scars and eye rings.

Contraindications

Not to be used in the case of acute or chronic skin disease (infection or inflammation) near to he area of the face being treated. This product should not be used for Orange County patients who are allergic to individual ingredients of the product.

How quickly does Sculptra work?

The effect of Sculptra™ cosmetic treatment is gradual and exceptionally natural looking. Two or three treatments are usually required, and the benefits may become noticeable after about six weeks.
